Bright Breeze – Whimsical blue, green and pink wildflowers painted in watercolour on watercolour paper
It’s early Autumn here, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it! We are still having summer weather. I love the feeling of a cool early morning breeze in early spring I get from this painting.

Autumn Tempus – Whimsical watercolour painting of swirly autumn trees in red and green
In case you can’t already tell, I love painting trees! I especially love painting trees in a whimsical, rather than true-to-life, way. Sometimes this manifests as swirling branches:
At other times, the leaves themselves seem to swirl:
My newer paintings feature a variety of patterns in the foliage of the trees:
I love painting in lots of different ways – it means I never get bored. Which style is your favourite?

Memories of spring – watercolour painting of gold and purple flowers by Kirsten Bailey
The inspiration for this painting was a posy of wildflowers, picked in the spring and beginning to dry and wilt as spring moves in to summer. Painted in shimmery gold paint, this painting is prettier in person than it is on the screen!

Contemplation – intuitive abstract watercolour painting on paper in coral, yellow and turquoise by klbaileyart
I called this painting ‘contemplation’ because this style of painting is very meditative to me. I never know what the finished painting is going to be like when I begin – I just go with the flow, and see where the paint takes me. I love this combination of colours!

Lately I’ve been playing with an intuitive art style, where I just start out with shapes on the page and see where they take me. I don’t start with any kind of plan except perhaps some idea about the colours I’m going to use, and I just start painting. As I paint, the image evolves and changes.
While I was painting this one, I was listening to the the audiobook of Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson, part of the Stormlight Archive series. (I’m trying to re-read all the books before the newest one comes out next month!) So, when I was trying to think of a title for this piece (something I always have trouble with), I decided to name it “windrunner”, inspired by my favourite sad bridgeman.

This piece was a bit of experiment. I’ve played before with intuitive art, and I really enjoy it – it is so relaxing. I love just putting the paint on the paper and seeing where it takes me. The biggest problem I have with this art style is knowing when to stop! I tend to get carried away adding more and more details.
Vibrant garden – bright intuitive watercolour painting by Kirsten Bailey
To be honest I wasn’t sure what I thought of this piece when I first finished it, but it is growing on me (ha!).
I uploaded this to My Redbubble store and I love the way it looks on some of the products they offer, especially the home décor items. I’m tempted to get myself an apron!
