Sea Gardens

I’ve recently been working on a new series of intuitive abstract paintings called ‘sea gardens’.  This is a series of 5 paintings (so far) which are all variations on a theme of underwater plants.  I made so many because I found them so peaceful and calming to work on!

These original paintings are available for purchase in my Etsy store.  Let me know if you’re interested in digital prints!

“Plumage” – another in my series of intuitive paintings.  I didn’t intend for this to look like feathers from the outset, but that’s what it ended up looking like to me!  That’s one of the things I love about this painting style.  I love just exploring the paint and seeing where it takes me.  It’s especially fun in watercolours, because they really have a mind of their own sometimes.

This original painting is in A4 size, which makes it easy to purchase frames for.  It is available for purchase from my Etsy store.  Prints and products like the ones featured below are available from Redbubble.

I love painting in this intuitive style – it’s so calming and peaceful.  I started with just some shapes on the page and as I was painting, a theme began to emerge.

Inspire Me Thursday – Tree

Could there be an Inspire Me Thursday subject more suited to my work than “Tree”?
I have always loved trees, ever since I was a child & spent most of my free time climbing the huge tree we had in our backyard. Trees feature heavily in my artwork.

I don’t really need an extra excuse to paint trees, and was planning to paint some trees this weekend anyway. I think I’ll be contributing more than one painting to this weeks theme!

My first painting:

What I wanted to do with this painting is to represent the fact that beauty does not mean looking like everyone else.  Being an individual and being yourself is more beautiful than becoming a carbon-copy of the ideals projected by the media.

Inspire Me Thursday – Dark

This week’s topic for Inspire Me Thursday is “Dark”.  The first thought that came to me on this topic was one of my favourite quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson:

“When it is dark enough, you can see the stars”.

This painting was inspired by that quote:

Inspire Me Thursday – Inspired by Mademoiselle Caroline Riviere

It’s been a while since I’ve participated in an Inspire Me Thursday challenge, but I’ve really enjoyed this one:

This week, let’s try something a little different. Let’s all download Mademoiselle Caroline Rivière and use her somehow in a piece of art. You can cut, collage, paint, decoupage, whatever your heart desires as long as you use some part of this image in your art.

The portrait of Mademoiselle Caroline Rivière is a painting by the French Neoclassical artist Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, now in the Louvre. [more information here]

My interpretation of this challenge was to create a watercolour painting/collage with one of my signature style backgrounds.  I also gave her a bit of a wardrobe update and a bit of extra lippy.  I’ve titled this one “Mademoiselle Caroline Riviere Dreams of Love on a Starry Night”.

If you’d like to buy this painting, it is available at my etsy store.
